In the mall

Alice smiled, "I'm freezing because I'm anemic, and I forgot my iron pills, no mystery there. Jasper suddenly wanted to shop because he likes shopping. And I suddenly stopped happy dancing because I realized that I was making a scene about nothing."

"Does that answer things in a satisfactory manner?" Jasper asked politely, internally smirking at Alice's rebuttal.

"Yes, it does, and I'm REALLY sorry about Logan. Like I said, she's a bit of a-" "Hold it! I have one piece of evidence that can prove it!" "Logan, will you give it a rest? They are not vampires! Take a loss!"

'And keep our cover!' "OH NO! I am PISSED OFF and I KNOW that you are one! The smell....!" "Oh my god.... Logan...." Laura backed up slightly. "I. Can not. Believe you."

"Our smell?" Alice was genuinely confused. 'Only werewolves object to our scent...huh, I wonder...'

She looked over at Jasper and saw he was thinking the same thing.

"What's wrong with our smell?" Jasper asked quizzically.

"I don't smell weird, do I?" Alice asked Jasper, her eyes filled with hurt.

"Not at all," he reassured her, then turned back to Laura, "How does our scent prove we're vampires? That's hardly substantial enough evidence to prove someone's a vamp."

"Look, before I embarrass you any further, I'm just going to get a blended drink and stay out of your hair. Bye." Laura turned and started heading for a Starbucks or something of the sort.

"Um, what just happened?" Alice asked Jasper, somewhat in shock.

"I think she's a werewolf," he whispered. "That's why she thinks we smell weird. That's why she loves werewolves. We should warn the others."

"How? 'Hey, we met a werewolf today, and she has MPD with mismatched eyes'?" Alice asked dubiously. "Like they'd believe us."

"They would, because Edward would," he explained. "We just need to figure out if Laura's a friendly werewolf or an enemy."

"Whatever, let's go fill this out," Alice shook her head to clear it as she took Jasper's hand and led him to a neighboring Starbucks, eager to fill in the blanks in the book they had just bought.

"Let's see, heroine name...Rosalie Hale," Jasper grinned teasingly as Alice smacked him and wrote in her own name.

"Hero name...Carlisle Cullen," Alice joked as Jasper stole the book and wrote in his name. "Isn't this fun?"

"Lots," Jasper smiled.

'Thanks a lot, Logan! You made me lose ANOTHER friend!' Nothing. "Oh. Great. NOW you decide to shut up? You know what? I need to get you an anger management class. And find Alice and Jasper." She didn't even care that she said that last part out loud. She just needed to find Alice and Jasper and apologize. She Toucan Sam'd it and followed her nose to the vamps. Which just so happened the place she was looking for.

"She's going to apologize, maybe we should ask her then?" Alice whispered to Jasper.

"Soooo tactful," he rolled his eyes. "Just forget about it, we'll find out in good time."

"Alright," Alice sighed and wrote some more in the book. "What do you think about Shaniqua the Ballin' for heroine's best friend?"

"It's a wonderful name," Jasper smiled at his wife's absurdity. Even after knowing her for 61 years, her quirkiness tended to surprise him every now and then.

Alice giggled at his serious response, and Jasper couldn't help but laugh along with her.

Laura got in line at the Starbucks and waited for what seemed like an eternity. When she finally got up, she ordered a Strawberry Frappacino. While waiting for the drink to be made, she heard what seemed to be a faint whisper. 'I'm sorry.... I didn't mean too...' Laura sighed, both inwardly and outside. 'It's ok. I understand how you work. Sort of.' "Venti Strawberry Frappacino?" "Yeah, that's me."

'Hey, is that Alice?' 'Yeah, Jasper too.' 'What should I do?' 'I think that you need to apologize.' 'Right.....'

Alice nudged Jasper's arm lightly, letting him know Laura was in the Starbucks with them. He nodded, casually filling out the book. "Gold or black eyes?"

"Gold for me, black for you, Mr. Antagonist," Alice teased. "Do you agree?"

"Completely," Jasper smiled, thinking over what to say to Laura. 'She's a werewolf, but how to ask? Get Jacob to scope her out?'

"Uh.... Excuse me?" Logan asked. "Alice? Jasper? I'm very sorry about the incident in the book store earlier... I was out of line. I shouldn't have accused you of being something you aren't. Please accept my apology..."

"It's alright," Alice smiled at Laura, "We get accused of being vampires so often, we kind of start believing it."

"Yeah," Jasper agreed, "No harm done."

Alice's hand squeezed Jasper's hand under the table, subtly warning him not to shoot off his mouth and ask Laura if she was a werewolf.

"How'd you know where to find us?" Alice asked curiously. "It's not that we mind, it's just odd. When we get left at a mall by someone, it takes a while to find us."

"Well, Laura did say she wanted a blended drink. When she found the Starbucks, she just went in, hell bent on getting the frappicino, and didn't notice who was in here or what." "Hey! It's not my fault I was thirsty. Plus, those things are GOOD." "True."

"Alright," Alice smiled shyly.

"Can you explain what you meant earlier by our smell was different?" Jasper asked, wanting to hear her response. 'Depending on how she answers, it'll prove she's a werewolf.'

Alice glanced over at Jasper, wondering what he was thinking, 'What's he trying to do? Get a written confession out of her?'

"Well, I don't really know how to say this, but.... you have a bit of.... body odor. Sorry once again, but..... I had experienced a moment of insanity where everything meant you were a vampire. Our blood sugar must be a bit low or something. The frappicino helped a lot, though." Logan took another sip of the blended heaven.

'Nice cover.' 'Thanks. It was a bit awkward, but... hopefully it put them off our trail.' 'They were on what trail? Do you want them to get lost? They might get attacked by a bear or something!' 'One. They're vampires, we've already established this fact, so they'd probably just eat the bear. Two. The trail I'm talking about is that we're a werewolf. And let's not forget important number three, you're a dumbass!' 'Oh, OK! .......Hey, wait a minute!'

Alice leaned over and sniffed Jasper, "Body odor? Hm..." She was quiet, thinking this over, 'Well, Jasper doesn't smell that odd, other than the vamp scent. But we generally only smell bad to werewolves....and she does love wolves....Huh....this is getting curiouser and curiouser...'

"Alice?" Jasper waved a hand in front of her face in an attempt to bring her back to earth. "Al, now isn't the time for a nap."

"Yes?" Alice then realized she had been staring vacantly into space. "Oh....sorry about that."

Jasper shook his head, "Do I honestly smell that bad, Al? You can just tell me."

"No, I was just thinking," Alice explained.

"About?" he prompted her for more information.

"Nothing of importance," she answered.

"Fine," Jasper shrugged, well aware that she would fill him in while driving home. Which wouldn't be for a while. He internally sighed. Sometimes it was hard to be married to a shopaholic.

"Now that I think about it, it must have been that fat guy from a couple aisles over. He smelled like a llama farm. You guys don't smell bad now."

'True?' Whilst in the realm of the mind, they have no idea what the smells are like in the outside world. 'No. They still smell a little weird. Typical vamp.' 'What should we do?' 'Just wait, I guess.'

"Well, alright," Alice bit her bottom lip in an effort not to say what was going on in her mind, 'Is she a werewolf?'

Jasper squeezed her hand gently, silently warning her not to say anything. He asked quietly, "Are y'all a werewolf, by any chance?"

"Jasper!" Alice was appalled by his audacity. "Jasper. Whitlock. Hale. In this day and age we do NOT accuse perfectly nice people of being mythological creatures!"

"C'mon, you were totally thinking it, too!" he countered.

Laura took over once more and blushed. "Umm..... I suddenly got a case of Deja Vu. What makes you think that I am one of the Lycanthropy plagued folk?"

Alice and Jasper exchanged a long look, wondering what to say. Jasper finally recovered his tongue, "Well, I know this isn't much, but your love of wolves. Do you not relate well to them? And then there's the whole scent thing. Only werewolves say we smell bad," he explained. "Ordinary people think we smell wonderful."

Alice nodded in agreement, not daring to meet Laura's eyes. 'She's probably pissed at us,' she thought glumly.

"Ok. I understand what might make you think I might be one of them, however," Laura began, thinking of what to ask next. "What would you say if I was what you claim I am?"

"We honestly don't care," Alice smiled, "What would you say if we were what you think we are?"

"Don't scare her, Al," Jasper warned.

"She's obviously not a new werewolf like Jacob," she countered. "I think she can control it."

"Whatever," he gave up trying to reason with her.

"Ahh... I see you've found me out. Smart ones, you are. But in doing so, you've also given up yourself." Laura smirked. "Hey, could you sit down? You're blocking the exit!" Some fat guy with three scones and a Venti Caramel Mocha Latte shouted. "Dear jesus.... May I?" She asked, referring to the chair.

"Of course," Alice grinned. "We have a lot to talk about."

"Yes, we gave ourselves up, mostly because you knew, and we knew that you knew. But did you know that we knew that you knew?" Jasper smiled slyly.

"Huh?" she was confused. "What's that mean?"

"Don't worry about it," Jasper reassured her.

"I'm gonna go with no." Laura said after sitting down. "I did not know that you knew that I knew. However, I had a slight feeling that you knew what I was after Logan said the smell thing."

"Yeah, it gave it away just a bit," Alice agreed. "I don't think someone's ever been so perceptive in figuring out what exactly we are. Everyone just assumes we're different, but not supernatural."

"I think it was my fault," Jasper explained to her. "I should have known better than to use my powers in such close quarters."

"That would do it," she said. "I told you not to."

"Know it all little freak," he muttered.
